Description

Red Clover(Akatsumekusa, Trifolium pratense) is a perennial plant of the genus Trifolium in the family Fabaceae native to Europe.
It was imported as a pasture crop from Europe to Japan in the Meiji Restoration and spread over the whole Japan in a state of nature.

Derivation

Japanese name Akatsumekusa(Red Clover) derives from similar to Shirotsumekusa(White Clover) and flowers that is scarlet. Another name is Murasakitsumekusa(Purple Clover).

Flowers

The flower season is from May to September. Its color is vary from white to crimson. It forms from Many small cone flowers into a round flower.

Leaves And Stems

Stems are between 30cm to 60cm. Leaves and Stems have thin down. Leaves is alternate phyllotaxis. And they usually forms from 3 leaflets, seldom 4.
The leaflet is oval, and it has a V character mottle which is light green color.

Ecology

The habitat is the roadside and the grass which catch the sun.

Red Clover is longer and erecter than White Clover.
And the flower is bigger and lower, the leaves are bigger.
